ArcelorMittal South Africa are the biggest steel producing company in Africa.


The ArcelorMittal Engineering bursaries are awarded to students who are studying full-time at a university with an ArcelorMittal- approved discipline of study. 

How to Apply

For students who have just matriculated or not yet in their first year of engineering, applications must be done online at: .

The following documents must be submitted along with the completed online application:

  • ID document (certified copy of)
  • Grade 11 final results AND Matric latest results, if currently in Matric
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy of)
  • Proof of University application/ registration

Current BEng students:
Applications must be submitted electronically via email to:
(Insert the words “ArcelorMittal Bursary Application – Your Full Name” in the email subject line).

The following documentation must be included:

  • ID document (certified copy of)
  • Full academic record
  • Shortened Curriculum Vitae

Service Contract

Once a student has completed their studies, they are appointed into the 24 month candidate engineer programme. This is a training programme which will lead to the graduates gaining work experience and being able to register as professional engineers at the end of the programme. All successful applicants will be assigned a mentor who be available to provide support.

Qualifying Criteria

Applicants who are in grade 12 need to have a an average of 70% for both pure maths and physical science in grade 11. Also, an overall average of 60% in matric is required. For applicants who are current university students, they will need to be studying one of the mentioned fields of engineering.

Allowance Details

The bursary covers the following: tuition expenses, meals and accommodation, personal computer, scientific calculator and a textbook allowance.
